Photo from the upcoming film apparently shot in Melbourne according to @Hellblazer. One of the all-time greatest kids books. I hope the film lives up to it.
I’m still totally geeked out by the Antikythera Mechanism. This video shows how it worked using an amazing replica. I want.
Well there you have it. Kevin Rudd is as much as scumbag as John Howard.
It didn’t take long for his true colours to show. A year after he was elected on a campaign which had a strong focus on climate change action, he has totally ignored Ross Garnaut’s recommendations of 5 per cent per year and decided we’ll settle on 5 per cent by 2020 or 15% if the rest of the world falls into line. Let me remind you that Kevin Rudd COMMISSIONED the report from Garnaut in the first place. He used it as a tool to help him win the 2007 election – and then completely and utterly ignored it.
What a complete cunt.
I, of course, saw this coming and didn’t vote for him. I’ve been convinced for a long time that both parties are just as corrupted as each other. They are both controlled by the elite – ie, the seriously wealthy and powerful folks who really run things. And these people don’t want change. They live for the next quarterly results. They are mostly in their 60s and 70s and don’t care if the world goes to hell in a handbasket by 2020 – cuz they know they won’t be around. They are in it for themselves.
To those of you who voted for Rudd – how do you feel?
To those of you who are as pissed off and angry as I am – what are we going to do about it?
My mate Ian Kath (or, as my kids refer to him, “that guy who made the lightsabers for Star Wars”), was with us at the No Clean Feed protest in Brisbane on the weekend (my video from the even is coming soon) and he did some great interviews with attendees, including yours truly.
Were the Mumbai attacks a false flag operation co-ordinated by the CIA?
Perhaps, according to this post:
informationliberation – Pakistani Security Consultant Calls Mumbai Attacks A “Botched” False Flag
False flags ops happen regularly and are a standard technique for creating violence and then blaming it on your enemies. Hitler used it in the burning of the Reichstag. According to “Legacy Of Ashes”, the CIA has funded and organised quite a few over the last 60 years, in places such as Iran and Cuba, as well as in Chile and Zaire.
Why would the CIA want to escalate the conflict between India and Pakistan?
Well in recent months, there have been growing tensions between Pakistan and the USA, in large part because of continual US bombings on Pakistani territory which have resulted in the deaths of Pakistani soldiers. The USA claims it is attacking “terrorists” (the catch-all excuse for everything these days) but the reality is probably that they are using drones to locate and destroy Pakistan’s nuclear facilities, as part of their long-term plan to protect Israel, their most important military base in the middle east, from attacks by regional Islamic interests.
In the last couple of years, we’ve seen the USA agree to assist India’s nuclear program and Australia do a deal with India to sell them uranium, despite India’s refusal to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and Australia’s historical position to NOT sell uranium to any nation not signed up.
Musharaff, until recently the President/military dictator of Pakistan, was a strong puppet ally of the USA during their “War On Terror”, especially after Bush’s Undersecretary of State, Richard Armitage made the General an offer he couldn’t refuse… “either cooperate with us militarily, against the will of your own military, security service and people…and accept more than $10 billion over the next five years…or we will bomb you back to the stone age.”
Then, of course, we saw the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan, just as she seemed poised to bring a new era of democratic leadership to Pakistan, one which might have significantly altered the view of them worldwide. Her husband, Asif Ali Zardar, won the election just after her death and is the current President, after Musharaff was finally abandoned by George Bush and faced impeachment. Last week, Bhutto was posthumously awarded a human rights prize by the U.N. As we know, the last thing the USA truly wants is democracy in places like Pakistan. History has taught them that when a nation like that (take Venezuela for example) gets a democracy, they start looking after their citizens first and USA corporations end up getting the rough end of the stick. One can only imagine what kind of quid pro quo Musharaff signed up for when he took the $10 billion. It looks like the current administation aren’t as keen to get raped by the IMF.
So – back to Mumbai. If – and I have no evidence for this, it’s just a thinking point – if the CIA orchestrated a false flag op, blamed it on Pakistani ISI, and got their press puppets around the West to spin out the Pentagon-written media releases, just like they did during the Iraq invasion, then it might be their way of sending a message to the Zardar administration – “Take the money – and give in to our demands – or else.”
Deliberate censorship by CNN? A bad guest? Or just technical problems? You decide.
I remember back in 2004 I had a debate, involving at least one cop, about why Melbourne police should be issued with tasers to avoid this kind of senseless death. Four years later and they STILL aren’t being issued with them. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?
Obviously this kid needed help, not a death sentence. I’m all for cops protecting themselves, but in any team, at least one of them should be carrying a taser. Capsicum spray isn’t good enough. Christine Dixon – what the hell are you doing down there? John Brumby – she reports to you. This death is on you, buddy.
I was surprised – and a little disgusted – to get a message on Twitter this morning from @AmericasPower, trying to tell me than coal is much cleaner now that it was 30 years ago. I hadn’t added them to my Twitter feed, they must have just picked up on my comments yesterday about ‘clean coal’ and decided to throw me a line of spin. America’s Power is a front group for the coal industry. What’s interesting to me is their blatant (and lame) attempt to use Twitter to spread their line of spin.
A quick look through their Twitter timeline shows that they have a standard schtick. They have a couple of lines of spin and just send those through to anyone who mentions clean coal on Twitter.
So this morning I went through their timeline and sent a message to everyone that Amercia’s Power had contacted in the last 24 hours, countering the spin, telling them to read this recent article in Scientific American, “The Dirty Side of Clean Coal“.
Is this the future of Twitter? PR hacks just invading our communications with spin whenever we mention one of their products? Ugh.
I’ve told many PR folks over the last five years that they need to be listening to the online conversation about their products and services. However I also stress that the way they engage that audience needs to be intelligent, not this kind of ham-fisted approach of just sending a cookie-cutter line of bullshit. This is definitely a case study of how NOT to do it.
The folks at Think Big Magazine put their entire content up online for free, which is more than I can say for most business magazines in this country. Go here and you can subscribe for free. And then you can read the article about me that’s in their current edition. 🙂
