G’Day World #65 – Steve Wylie on Digital Video Production

Welcome to the first G’Day World podcast of 2006! This is my third year of podcasting (Nov 2004 – Jan 2006) and it’s going to be the smack!

If you are looking for a FAQ on digital video production, if you’ve just bought that flash new camcorder and want to know what the hell you do with it once you’ve filled up your first miniDV cassette, if you’re thinking of producing a video podcast / vidcast – then this show is for you.

Steven Wylie is the world’s leading expert on digital video production. Okay well he knows a lot about it anyway. It’s what he does for a day job. On this show he helps me get my head around what a novice needs to do to produce decent looking video for the innernet. Whether you are trying to produce video for an iPod, PC, TV, mobile phone or a huge screen in the middle of a stadium, Steven has some tips for you.

He tackles the issues of which bitrate your should use and which codecs you should support. We also talk about vidcasting and which kinds of formats might be suitable for a video podcast.

Here are links to some of the tools Steven recommends:

Adobe Premier Elements
Canopus ProCoder

G’Day World #64 – Ben Barren

Ben Barren is a Melbourne boy who has been around this innanet thing since day T-1. He’s worked for some of Australia’s top innanet companies and is now running a Web2.0 start-up. Ben’s a voracious listener of podcasts and reader of blogs, so I turn to him for the latest updates on what the hell is going on in the world of Web 2.0.
His blog is also famous for including piccies of hot chicks in each post. Don’t ask me why. I guess it’s his advertising background. Sex sells everything else, so why not a blog?

Listen in while we talk about Mark Cuban, GYMAAE, the future of podcasting, why he’s addicted to del.icio.us, the latest in facial recognition technology, and Web2.0 business models.

Happy New Year!

G’Day World “On The Pod” #63 – Joseph Nassise

I’m back from my vacation in hell with a suitable guest – horror novelist Joseph Nassise, author of the highly-acclaimed recent novel HERETIC.

HERETIC

I’m about two-thirds of the way through HERETIC and it’s a real page-turner, so I was very excited about getting Joe on the show. We chat about the novel, his approach to research and writing, the impact of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci on the religious thriller genre, the challenges with the horror genre, his appreciation of horror comics such as HELLBLAZER, and the opportunities the internet offer writers to promote their work.
