On the Pod with Jim Stewart

“On the Pod” show number seven is a ten minute ambush of Jim Stewart who is the man behind Stew Art Media.

Jim has been streaming media to the web since 1998 when he ran a daily technology news show that used to get 40,000 unique listeners per month during the dotcom era!!!!!! Holy crap!!!!! Thats not bad…its just under what the G’day World podcast is getting…we wish 😉

Listen in while he takes us through the trials and tribulations of running a media streaming company in the golden era and a lot more…

On the Pod with Mike Vallender

Tune in and listen to one of our longer interview sessions that we recorded last weekend (and our sixth “On the Pod” session) with Mike Vallender.

Mike is currently Managing Director of successful CSIRO spin out Windlab Systems Pty Ltd, now a private company creating an international reputation as a commercial leader in wind energy services.

Mike also serves as Chairperson for Australian Intranets Pty Ltd, Effectual.biz Pty Ltd and Vallender.Com Pty Ltd.

In December 1999, as Managing Director of HotCopper Australia Limited, Mike achieved a successful Initial Public Offering on the Australian Stock Exchange returning up to 600% for its original seed investors. He then led the public company through an on market merger with Bourse Data Limited (three weeks later!!!), a leading sharemarket information services company, and was appointed as its CEO.

Bourse Data Hotcopper was then sold to St. George Bank late in 2001, and Mike was appointed as the CEO of the newly aquired division.

Mike’s other credits include the establishment of the wholesale services division at Australia’s then largest ISP, OzEmail, where he was Cameron’s manager for a year.

UPDATE 2024-12-23: I was saddened to hear yesterday that Mike had gone to the great WOW server in the sky. I’ve resurrected this episode to remember him by, recorded 20 years ago – exactly 20 years before the day he passed away. This was one of our first podcasts. We recorded the first Australian podcast ever in November 2004, so this was done just a few weeks later. Typical of Mike to be part of something new. He was a great guy and will be remembered fondly by many people. This interview provides a great snapshot on the man himself as well as a record of what the early days of the internet were like in Australia. I also found another show with him from 2006 in the archives.

BTW, my original co-host on G’Day World, Mick Stanic, co-founder of The Podcast Network, who is on this show from 2004, also passed away, back in 2020.

On the Pod with Mitch Denny

Trying to get through the back-log of “On the Pod” sessions we have recorded over the past week means that i wil be posting up two “On the Pod” interviews today…one short ambush session and one longer interview.

The ambush show we are putting up is a quick chat with Mitch Denny from Canberra. Mitch is a .Net MVP and works as a Senior Consultant for Readify who are “Australia’s foremost .Net Trainers & Consultants “…well..thats what their web site says and who are we to argue with a website??

Mitch is great guy who not only is a blogger, but is really getting into the Wiki thing as well. Check out his two Wiki’s, Wiki Dot Not Gartner Dot Com and Don’t Panic, which has a growing list of WiFi and power point (latop power not the presentation tool) friendly locations around Australia amongst other things.

On the Pod with Angus Logan

The podcasts just keep on coming this week…

The short “ambush” podcasts are quite fun (and easy to do) so Cameron and I have been doing a few of them. We don’t want to overburden you guys with having to listen to us too much (yeah yeah…i know bandwidth ain’t cheap in Australia and a lot of other countries), but we are having an absolute blast doing the “G’day World” podcasts and love all the feedback we have been getting. So for the moment…you will just have to put up with us posting material in a pretty steady stream…well…it might slow down over xmas but it isn’t looking like it. 🙂

In this episode of “On the Pod” we ambush and have a chat with our mate Angus Logan. Angus is a Microsoft Content Management Server / SharePoint Technologies developer and a resident of Brisbane (or that little area near Brisbane we like to call Brisvegas actually). Brisbane is the capital of the sunny northern Australian state of Queensland, where as the TV ad used to try and convince us…”its beautiful one day. . .perfect the next “.

Listen in as Angus puts us on pause (hmmm) and talks about the “The seven habits of successful retards” amongst other things.

<shh>it looks like we may have a special guest on very very soon…thanx Buzz</shh>

On the Pod with William Luu

“On the Pod with William Luu” is the first “ambush” podcast we have recorded…listen in to hear our ten minute Skype conversation and then add “splatt” or “Cameron Reilly” to your Skype contact list…and wait for our call…the next time your skype rings…that could be us…

Be afraid…be very afraid… 😉

Welcome to “On the Pod – with Buzz Bruggeman”

Hi everyone

We have been floating an idea around for a while to do interviews with prominent tech people, bloggers/podcasters and all the “smart people” we know…or those who will allow us (and trust us) to record a conversation with them at least. The idea grew (or should I say took a life of its own) and this is the first installment of our “On the Pod” sessions…some of these interviews will be long (1 hour) and some will be short (5 minutes) but they will fun, entertaining and hopefully educational. Some will be structured interviews and some will be quick ambushes of people on our Skype list, but the best way to think of them is as a nice quite chat with people we call our “friends”.

Our inaugural guest is one of the founders and the CEO of Active Words System Inc (makers of ActiveWords, which was earlier this year named as the 3rd Best Software Product of the year by Jupitermedia’s Eric Grevstad, following behind OpenOffice and Microsoft 2003), the man who was awarded the “demoGod” award at Demo 2004, one of the most active bloggers of our time and a man we call a “mate”,Buzz Bruggeman.

You can either pick up the recording in our podcast (RSS) feed or you can download it by clicking on the link below. We hope you enjoy listening to “On the Pod with Cameron, Mick and Buzz Bruggeman” as much as we enjoyed recording it.
