G’DAY WORLD 188 – On Freedom Of Speech, LBJ killed JFK?, and Fidel Castro’s last breaths

On the show tonight….

  • The word for the day is “blogorrhea“. To write a blog entry just for the sake of posting an entry, not because you have done anything interesting today.
  • Think you only use 10% of your brain? Think again.
  • Why should Australia’s Attorney-General Phillip Ruddock have the ability to stop someone from publishing a book? Do we want freedom of speech in this country or not?
  • If someone attaches a video camera to his shoe and films up ladies skirts on Melbourne trams, what law is he breaking?
  • Some Christian in Washington doesn’t want his kids’ school to show Al Gore’s film because it doesn’t agree with the Bible that the earth is only thousands of years old.
  • As Fidel Castro apparently takes his last breaths, I talk a little about the man and his 48 years in power.
  • Did LBJ have JFK killed?
    1. E. Howard Hunt, a former CIA agent who organized the Watergate break-in, says LBJ might have done it.
    2. Barr McClellan, father of former White House press secretary Scott McClellan and a partner in the Austin law firm that represented Johnson, says LBJ did it.
    3. LBJ’s former mistress Madeleine Duncan Brown says LBJ did it
  • Oh and then I explain why our inability to disprove god and unicorns does nothing to change the fact that the existence of both is highly improbable.

G’DAY WORLD 187 – Mark Pop on Solar Energy

The word of the day is “Enterdrainment“: Any passive form of entertainment that is so incredibly mind numbing that it sucks the intelligence from the listener or viewer; ultimately over time reducing (or limiting) them to a simplistic proto-human mental state, incapable of cognition or rational thought.

Kind of like this show. 🙂

To give you a break from my attacks on religion, my guest tonight is Mark Pop who is a Sydney-based expert in solar energy and climate change. We talk about the economic and political challenges to solar energy as well as discuss the truthiness of climate change.

Wesley Autrey – Could You Do It?

Wesley Autrey, the gentleman who jumped on the tracks in the face of an oncoming train to save the life of a complete stranger.
    [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4GaStsLadQ]

So what do you think happens with Autrey from here? Released an inspirational rap album? Biopic of the Week starring Eddie Murphy?
Amazing story. I don’t think my first instinct would have been to jump down. Especially with my two young kids standing there with me!! My instinct to survive would have been stronger than my instinct to save the guy in the tracks.

I wonder what it was about this guy, something in his upbringing, something in his genes, that gave him the impetus to risk his life like that in a split second to save someone he didn’t know.

Do you think you would have done the same thing?

And now this story, also from New York, of two guys who caught a three-year old baby when it fell five stories!

What is it about positive news stories of heroes from New York this week?

    Either:

    a) This is all a stunt to promote the new season of “Hereos” on NBC.

    b) Mutant “Hero” genes are spontaneously switching themselves on inside nooyorkers, possible something to do with the drinking water.

    c) The stories were all concocted by the industrial-military complex to take people’s attention away from the fact that GWB’s new Iraq plan will look very much like the old Iraq plan with a couple of new faces and some new catchphrases.

    What Bush Means

.. when he says (about Iraq)

“If we were to fail, that failed policy will come to hurt generations of Americans in the future.”

    is

“If we leave before we have destroyed all opposition to Amerian / British policies and secured the position of our puppet administration, we will never get our hands on their oil and the 2003 invasion won’t pay off.”

Just in case you couldn’t read between the lines.

Hooray – Our government is useless

Australians all let us rejoice! For our Federal Government has been absolved of all responsibility for the AWB scandal! It turns out they knew nothing! Nothing at all! It’s all okay. Breathe easy Australia, your Government knew nothing. They didn’t read the secret memos and cables. Andrew Bolt seems to think this is a good thing. The AWB was secretly paying Saddam Hussein’s regime hundreds of millions of dollars of kickbacks, the Australian Federal Government was getting memos about it… but they didn’t read them, so it’s all okay.

The other news to almost get skipped over today is that AWB were told, a year before the Australian public, that we were going to support an upcoming US invasion of Iraq. This was a full year before Prime Minister Howard claims he even made the decision!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m no leftie. I’ve voted for the Libs in every election, State and Federal, since I was 18. But this all sucks. It’s time for a major shake-up. Unfortunately, the ALP are a bunch of nogger-heads. (That was “nogger”, Kramer.). The Dems are dead. The Greens? Who is left? Those right-wing Christian nutters? Crikey. Slim pickings on the voting front this weekend. Whatever happened to those nice Communist kids who were around in the 70s?
