Today we have a return of the “Cam Heart To Heart” show – aka “the rant” – where I don’t bother with a guest, I just tell you about what’s been on my mind lately. Today I talk about getting myself a performance coach, about reading up on Carl Jung, on Karl Marx, the Russian Revolution and ask, yet again, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING WITH YOUR LIVES???
In the background I’m playing these songs:

Re dreams: everyone dreams – few remember them. The best chance you have of remembering a dream is to have someone wake you during REM sleep 🙂 Not fun though! But you have a good chance of recalling what it was you were dreaming about.
The last time I read anything about dreaming it was the idea that dreams are the brains way of laying down memory and “storing” things that happened during the day/days. So in some bizarre way – this causes all sorts of recalled memories of that process – dreaming. It sounded like a reasonable enough explanation to me. Not sure I subscribe to the idea that dreams are a way of predicting the future or anything like that.
Regarding dreams: I dream all the time and recall most of them. My dreams are a core part of me. You know that sense of deja vu? Happens almost everyday with me.
Anyways, sometime ago, I realised that my dreams are a great problem solving tool. Every time I come across a problem, and can’t think up a solution, I lie down, run through the problem and zone out (the state just before sleep). If it’s in the day, I usually get a solution before I actually fall asleep. If it’s in the night, I usually have a dream that outlines the solution. So if I was stuck writing an essay for example, I dream of a paragraph, or a book which can help etc.
It’s hard to describe, but that’s the way it is. Sometime ago I realised that I can ‘control’ my dreams and it kinda evolved from that.
Re communism and capitalism: You have no idea how shocked I was when I came to Australia, and saw how brain-washed most Australians were about capitalism/communism. Later on I realised Americans were the same. Weird. Not quite the same growing up in the ‘rest of the world’.
I’m still working on a new system – using the best of both and the rest maybe. Whatever it is, I know for sure that ‘democratic capitalism’ can’t be the end of the road, as a lot of people seem to think. I think it has served its purpose. Time for something better!
Cam, it’s good to hear your latest episode. The interviews are good but it is good to hear you “sounding off” as well and talking about what is happening with you. I’d rather hear about that than who is in blog combat in “the Valley”.
I woke up abruptly this morning and wrote this. Finally, all those teenage years of reading chomsky have come to good use!
