G’Day World #68 (MP3 – 8.8MB – 24min)
Alex Laats, the CEO of Podzinger, joins me today to talk about the launch of their new podcast search service. As you know, I’ve been pretty skeptical about the value of these podcast “speech-to-text” services in the past, but I think today Alex was able to convince me of their worth.
However, their service is currently designed to recognize only North American accents, so it HATES this show. 🙂
Check out a part of its transcription of a recent episode:

Now, I know I can talk shit sometimes, but hopefully I make a little more sense than this. But, of course, most of the podcasts out there come from North America, so it’s a good business decision and Alex assures me they are working on other languages, including other regional English accents and Chinese.
Oh My god! No wonder its so cold today, Hell froze over and Cam changed his mind on something. This is a must listen to episode.

Do these guys do Text to Speach as well? Cause if they do, Alex sounds like he is using it!
Hehe (sorry Alex, that might be a bit mean).
Listening to the show now.

“melissa bell logistics” and “sexual economies” sounds like my dream last night.
Paul, on behalf of Melissa Bell, I am shuddering with horror.
Molly, that’s not nice. Alex was generous enough to give of his time (ok, he was promoting his service, but he doesn’t need to do it on my measly little podcast), and he was calling from a cell phone, to a conf call service, which I then connected to via Skype. All in all, i think the audio quality was pretty damn good.
I appologies, but have you listened to the show? You got to admit because of the reason you mentioned above, it sounds like a computer generated voice?
Molly
Listened to this on the way home. Sounds like a great idea especially with the built-in time coding as well.
I do have to agree with Molly though, no offence but he does sound a little like a computer generated speech on my Mac. I am aware it is a product of the connection but first thing I thought of was what Molly did.
