If you don’t find this whole thing totally ridiculous and abhorrent, then I suggest you need to wake the hell up. It’s 2009 and you people still allow this kind of nonsense? Listen – the whole idea that some people are born “royal” and superior to everyone else should have died about centuries ago. I know, I know – most people still believe in the sky daddy, too. But come on, UK. We really can’t take you seriously while you still pander to some old bint dressing up in a crown and sitting on a golden throne. It’s not only foolish, it’s abhorrent.

It did. on 30 January 1649. Ever since then we’ve reserved the right to cut their heads off whenever we feel like it. We just haven’t felt like it.
I think you miss the real point of a King/Queen.

Cameron, I agree we should find a way to drop the Windsor family, but this way should not be hurtful to individuals or the British people.
I don’t think Windsors could possibly claim to be superior, Kings/Queens were a way to prevent the anarchy of succession that blighted Rome, that undid the magnificent contribution of Napoleon and robbed France of Constitutional peace for 150 years.
Regal and esp Ecclesiastic Pomp is a load of rubbish, but much good can go out with the bathwater!

I’ve got nothing against people who want to live in castles, wear crowns and sit on thrones. Whatever makes them happy. I’d prefer not to pay for it though.
