Does anyone out there know how to print a filtered outline in MindManager? I’m using Mindjet’s MindManager Pro 6 and when I filter my map to isolate certain tasks, and then view it in Outline View, the print option is disabled. Seems stupid to me. Anybody know how to get around this? I tried cutting and pasting it to Microsoft Word but Word doesn’t preserve the formatting (check boxes, icons, etc).

I can’t believe I *still* do not have a listing in Wikipedia.

Anyone out there got the edition of B&T Magazine which came out last Friday? I think that’s the one with my article in the Digital Media insert. UPDATE: Ignore that, I think it doesn’t come out for another week?

Apparently, this 16 year old kid called J Milburn doesn’t think I am “notable” enough to be in Wikipedia. J Milburn deleted a page about me that someone (might have been Daniel Bowen, he brought it to my attention) put up. Of course, TPN is in Wikipedia (thanks Tom). But apparently my role in that doesn’t make me “notable” enough, in J Milburn’s view. What I’d like everyone out there with a blog to do is to write up a small post about J Milburn and tell him how notable you think I am. Make sure you link to this post. Mmmkay?

Atheism is pretentious and cowardly – says this guy Theo Hobson with the Village People mustache.
The best bit is the attitude and number of comments! The “militant atheists” give Theo a kick in the pants. Judging by that mustache, he might enjoy a little bit of that too. Thanks to Russell Buckley for the link.

Hi Cam, Do you have MS Word installed? I tried printing from a filtered MindManager 7 outline view and it used Word during the process. Effectively it does an export to temp Word file then prints that. Perhaps print from filtered outline is new in 7 or requires Word
Thanks Robin, yes I do have Word installed but I don’t see an “export to Word” option, only to pdf, powerpoint, html and excel. And the pdf and excel options are disabled in Outline view.
I just tried printing filtered map outlines in both MM6 and MM7 and they both work. You can’t use the print preview function though – that’s disabled. But you can still go to File -> Print and it’ll only print out the filtered map nodes.
Like Robin said, it uses MS Word to generate the map outline, but that should be invisible to you. Does the ‘print progress’ box appear at all?
Sam, once I go into Outline view, both the print button and the File > Print option are greyed out!
See photo:

Hmm… did you customise your toolbars? Try clicking the File menu, is the print option still greyed out there?
Are you using the latest version, 6.2.399?
Info here: http://www.mindjet.com/us/knowledge_base/questions/350/MindManager-6-SP2a-Release-Notes—-build-6.2.399
Download here: http://www.mindjet.com/us/support/service_packs/index.php?s=2
I created a new mindmap with a few nodes and markers, switched to outline view:

Filtered to only the priority 1 marker:

Pressed File->Print:

Maybe you fudged up your map template. Try using the MM6 map I made above (rename the extension from .map to .mmap) – http://driveactivated.com/files/ftpupload/testmm6map/testmap.map
Sam
Haven’t touched the toolbars.
Yes, have latest version.
Thinking about the map template… I just created a brand new map, put one node on it, switched to outline view… and the print button is greyed again! Arrghh! Damn you Mindjet!
What is it with you and computers? Something tells me even a Mac wouldn’t do you much good. 😛
So the print button is greyed even if you don’t filter? So the print button only works while in map view?
Given that it uses Word to generate the printout, does File -> Export -> Microsoft Word Export work? Maybe it’s smart enough to realise your Word installation is buggered up, hence it can’t generate the printout, so it doesn’t let you do it.
If the above doesn’t work, go to Tools -> Add-Ins, and tick Microsoft Word Export and Import if not already.
P.S. arrgh, my fingers aren’t working, it’s that bloody cold!
Just tried unticking the Microsoft Word Export and Import option in Tools -> Add-Ins and it indeed does give the greyed out print button you’re getting in outline view – ensure it’s ticked and you should be fine.
Sam – I think we’re getting closer! I don’t HAVE a Microsoft Word export option and it isn’t even listed as an add-on. Any ideas how I get it in there??
Does Mm6Word.dll exist in your MindManager folder (by default, C:Program FilesMindjetMindManager 6)?
If not you may need to reinstall, or if it’s being stubborn, email me and I’ll email you that DLL file.
BTW, on a default installation there’s 10 add-ins in the add-ins dialog, some ticked, others unticked. Point is, there’s 10 of them – if you don’t have them all, I think it’s worth reinstalling.
Sam! You are a genius my friend! I just re-installed MM and now it is printing from Outline view! Thanks mate, I owe you a drink at the next MODM! Oh wait, they are all free anyway… hmmm, consider yourself paid in full. 🙂
[edit] reinstate Cameron Reilly
Please could you reinstate the page on Cameron Reilly who you have deemed non-notable! As the first Australian podcaster he influences thousands of people every week.I understand that as you live in England you may not have heard of him, try listening to some of his podcasts at http://www.thepodcastnetwork.com/ which to my mind offer the highest quality podcasts available. The Napoleon show is particularly informative and G’Day world will have an extremley beneficial effect on your education. You would get on well as he is an active atheist and tries to convert believers on his show. Good luck with your GCSE’s
[edit] Cameron Reilly
Hi there, please feel free to rewrite the article if you are certain that he is notable, but make sure you show in the article that he is. The best way to do this is to attribute what is said in the article to reliable sources- provide a few reliable references, and I suspect that no one will challenge the notability of the subject. The original article was attributed to blogs, which are unreliable sources. I have restored the article and moved it to your userspace, it can be found here, so you can work on it there, and move it back to the article space once the article establishes the notability of the subject. Thanks, feel free to contact me if I can be of any help. J Milburn 17:01, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi Cameron, see above it seems blogs are not good enough for wikipedia, they clearly miss the consumer generated irony. If you send me some links to articles in paper and ink publications and perhaps a nice bio, I will write an entry about you that should stay up there!
haha Charlie, you’re a legend.

Awesome work Charlie! Now I finally feel validated. 🙂
Let’s see how long it lasts before some 8 year old kid pulls it down!
