The big press release went out today announcing that John Cleese (yes, THAT John Cleese) will be producing a new series of podcasts which will be hosted on TPN. Read the full announcement here.
What a coup, huh? This is something we’ve been working on for a year. Well, actually, Dean from Funk first started talking to me about doing this a LONG time ago, early 2005 I think. Anyway, it’s finally happened and the video which you can see in the full release I linked to above was played on the big screen today at the Podcast Expo in California. Ewan Spence, Scott Sherman and Brian Ibbott from TPN are all there reprezentin’.
As a child of the 70s I grew up watching Monty Python and Fawlty Towers and was a huge fan of John’s. And then when I got into the corporate video space in 1993, John’s video training series was something we all admired as being state of the art.
And of course his work in films such as “A Fish Called Wanda” was also completely genius.
So having the chance to help promote his new work in the era of podcasting is a complete thrill.
I have to thank Dean Whitebread from Funk for bringing the deal to us in the first place and really championing TPN to John and his people. And it wouldn’t have happened without Ewan Spence continually working away behind the scenes as he always does as TPN’s official VP of STUFF to keep the wheels turning.
This week has had it’s share of ups and downs but it’s great to finish it on a high!
It’s almost that time of year when I need to ask TPN’s audience to help us out by completing a survey. This year, for the first time, I’m actually taking the process seriously. This year I want to collect some basic information about the demographics and behaviours of our audience so we can continue to try convincing advertisers that podcasts are a great way to build relationships with their stakeholders. Whilst I know that completing surveys is a pain in the a$$, I’m hoping that our audience will appreciate that we are still here, producing content which you apparently like, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, and so far most of us are still doing it for free. However, the bigger TPN gets, the more money we need to spend on infrastructure and so we need to continue to grow our advertising support. Otherwise, this will all disappear. And I’m sure most of you don’t want that to happen.
This year I’m taking the extra step of asking you to help me prepare the survey. I’ve saved a draft up to Google Docs and I’m hoping a few of you might run your eyes over it and give me suggestions for ways to make it better. You can leave your suggested improvements here or email them to me.
It’s been a year since we’ve heard their dark, kinky and NSFW sense of humour, but it was worth the wait. The GOH are back in da TPN house!
I’ve decided to start publishing TPN’s stats each month. August stats are now up on the TPN blog.
The TPN servers crashed 15 times in the last 24 hours and we don’t know why. I really need a server admin guru to help us get to the bottom of it. Anyone out there a jedi in Apache, etc, and want to help a brother out? I’ll make it worth your while. If you run or work for an IT shop and are willing to help out, I’ll give you free advertising on TPN. Get your brand out to 500,000 people a month.
