Hey Cam can you please put up a link to that conspiracy theory documentary on 9/11. Cheers, Nathan.
Good to hear the BBC is finally getting interested in podcasting in general and TPN in particular. The last item I heard on podcasting on Radio Five Live was so lame and twee (a three minute filler before the news with a flaky, jokey interviewee from some nondescript pc magazine and a sniggering, dismissive radio presenter to boot) that I emailed those Oxbridge bastards singing TPN’s praises and telling them to speak to Cameron Reilly who (I quote) “is an Aussie and won’t talk crap.” I know, it was a stupid idea. I apologize.
ummm thanks Chris. At least you got the Aussie part right.
looks like O’Reilly has sorted the current issue. From Boing Boing:
O’Reilly has apologized for sending in lawyers against the con before speaking to them, and has granted the con permission to use “Web 2.0” in its name.
However, O’Reilly maintains that Web 2.0 is a service mark of their company when applied to conferences, and that other conferences that want to call themselves “Web 2.0” will have to get O’Reilly’s permission — they defend this as part of the sound business practice of defending a trademark.

Cam/All,
I have a comment which relates to 2 things you mentioned in this episode (home town podcasts and stagnant idea disclosure).
My dad used to tune the organ in St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney and to get to it you have to walk outside along a section of roof to get to the tuning area. It’s an interesting place to check out (that most people would never get to see). I thought this would be a good premise to conduct a video podcast on a few months ago when I drove past it. That is the premise of unknown parts of Sydney in a video format. Other things include the old convict stuff at the Rocks, the cave surrounding the Tank stream (original Sydney water supply), one of Australia’s earliest coal mines actually went under the harbour, etc. Doesn’t have to be historic but that’s just what i’ve thought of. And for Sydney siders, what the hell is in that building in Martin Place that looks like a golf tee?
Anyway, i got a domain name for it (secretsydney.com) but i have negative time at the moment. If anyone wants to start it off or have the lot (make it a communal thing, pass the batton style or whatever) and i’ll pitch in the odd show when i get time, let me know.
TPN hosted of course…
OK, I’m a big Bill Hicks fan and have been for years (I think just after he passed away). Have to ask if the TPN tagline is inspired by Bill’s “Smoking” rant from Relentless:
“And I feel it’s my duty to pass on information at all times, so that we can all learn, evolve, and get the fuck off this planet.”
The next bit I love (as I’m a smoker):
“Non-smokers, this is for you and you only, ready? Non-smokers die every day. Sleep tight. See, I know you entertain some kind of eternal life fantasy because you do not smoke cigarettes. May I be the first to pop that little fucking bubble of yours, and send you hurtling back to the truth? You’re dead too. Have a good evening.”
no consciously urb, but I’ve listened to so much bill hicks over the years that the sentiment probably was somewhere deep in my head when i wrote our tag line. i, like bill, believe we (the human race) need to evolve our thinking and attitudes FAST before the AI arrives and wipes us all out.
