Well – we’ve been waiting for this for years. Des and I used to wish for it continuously on the Productivity Show. And now it’s here – The Mobile Version of Google Calendar.
The announcement on the Official Google Blog is here.
Finally I can say sayonara to Microsoft Outlook. My calendar will now be online, available to everyone to view my availability, I can view my friend’s calendars, organize group events, etc.
Blessed be Google. For they make shit happen while their competitors cling to 1995.
Congrats! Will this make you more productive, and hence lead to another Productivity Show!
alas, i think not. It needs a new host. Why don’t you volunteer?
When are you going to support Sync with Outlook? – We use Exchange.
So if it is goodbye to Outlook I have a few questions:
1. Are you going to use something like Thunderbird? I was just thinking, what if you are stranded in the desert with dial-up for company?
2. How are you going to record the show? Just that I know you use Skylook which is integrated with said MS product… Since you think our most excellent software that we use to record sucks and there are bugger all other Skype recording solutions out there.
3. How do you feel about the whole Google reads your mail thing? I have to admit there is some stuff I just would not send through Gmail – you?
4. Do you actually make your whole calendar public, just that all I see with that is something to let the robbers know when you are out… but seriously there is still stuff that I don’t want everyone knowing. Just because OK…
5. I agree Outlook sux
Glad that you are not trying to 3 way sync everything with Gmail now and I agree it is very cool.

1. When I go to the desert, my camel has built-in wifi. And a monitor in his hump.
2. Funny you should mention that. I’m actually testing something new that is top secret and unreleased. And has nothing to do with my camel.
3. I trust Google. Google is my friend.
4. My calendar is public but people can only see FREE/BUSY, they can’t see the detail of my appointments, just that whether I am free or not.
5. Yes it does.
No more synching!
Back to your first comment. OK! After all, I was your first guest on your first show, even though you can’t remember!!
Cam, a few thoughts.
1. Your pre-ocupation with camels is concerning.
2. Any ideas what this will do to your mobile data usage?
3. It would be good if Google supported more than Vodafone & Optus for reminders, or does the mobile version remove the need for this?
4. While a great step forward it does not help us bunnies who live in the corporate world and *need* to sync with Outlook.
Mike..
1. Tell me about it. And tell me camel. He’s sitting in the corner giving me strange looks.
2. I’m on a flat rate plan with 3.
3. I think you still need Google to be able to sms you reminders, so it needs to support your provider. I havent checked. I don’t tend to use reminders.
4. Well stop being bunnies.
