We’ve had a bunch of people visit the TPN HQ in Second Life tonight. All together I’ve counted 20 people. We’ve sat around and talked about Second Life, transhumanism, politics, you name it. A very varied discussion. At one point we were all even blown up by some C4 explosive and killed. Very cool.
Update: We had 30+ people turn up last night at various stages. Lots of great discussions. Hope to you see you all visit soon.

We’re putting the final touches on Peter’s new book (“Designing 2050: Pathways to Sustainable Prosperity on Spaceship Earth”, published by TPNTXT), and we need to get a Wikipedia entry loaded for him. I’ve got a bio on him but I need someone to write it up in Wikipedia. Any volunteers?

Tourism Victoria or the City of Melbourne (not sure which) has set up a display on ABC Island in Second Life which replicates (sort of) the look and feel of Melbourne’s laneways. Lots of stencil art, posters, cafes, etc. They even have the triangles from Fed Square floating in space. Not much to do though. And no-one to meet me when I got there at 2pm on a Friday. So while it seem like they have spent a bit of money on the look, the experience, at least when I went there, was pretty dull.
It reminds me of the talk Gary Wiz (aka Wiz Nordberg in SL) made last night at MODM about how corporations tend to fuck it up when they go into SL because they seem to forget that SL is about relationships and experience and not about pretty things to look at.
I’ve got some additional screenshots of the Melbourne presence in SL on my Flickr.

ah…. it seems like a lifetime ago… but I tell you, getting this badge was one of the highlights of my life at the time. I was so excited. Almost ten years ago. Before marriage. Before kids. Before podcasting. Time flies.

This is a snapshot of the new place we’ve been working on for the last couple of days. I have this vision of a series of biodomes, Bucky Fuller geodesic domes full of flora and fauna, perhaps with animals extinct IRL, and places for people to hang out and get their SL legs. We’re currently covered in snow, just waiting for our landlord to give us flora ACL. Domes are enclosed, so you have to teleport between them. 🙂
Come and visit us at TPN HQ.

I was also interviewed yesterday by Leon and Garry at The Age which will come out in the SMH/AGE business section soon as well as on their TPN Take Two podcast (taketwo.thepodcastnetwork.com).

Brett Welch linked me to this site. LOLcat themes against biblical imagery. Very funny and naughty. I’ll try to get Father Bob to put some of these up in his church.
