No show tonight but a request

Sorry folks, was out tonight with a mate shooting the breeze. Oh and reading “The God Delusion” by Richard Dawkins, which I finally bought. So far – brilliant.

One request – I just noticed G’Day World has a princely total of ZERO reviews in the Aussie iTunes store. Anyone want to rectify that situation for me???

G’DAY WORLD 187 – Mark Pop on Solar Energy

The word of the day is “Enterdrainment“: Any passive form of entertainment that is so incredibly mind numbing that it sucks the intelligence from the listener or viewer; ultimately over time reducing (or limiting) them to a simplistic proto-human mental state, incapable of cognition or rational thought.

Kind of like this show. 🙂

To give you a break from my attacks on religion, my guest tonight is Mark Pop who is a Sydney-based expert in solar energy and climate change. We talk about the economic and political challenges to solar energy as well as discuss the truthiness of climate change.

G’DAY WORLD 186 – Nicaragua vs USA, Libet’s Free Will experiment, and Charles Darwin’s birthday

The word of the day is “epiphenomenalism”.

Benjamin Libet did an experiment which suggests that thoughts happen inside our brains BEFORE we are even aware of them:
Wikipedia bio
More on Libet’s experiment.

You don’t believe a country like the USA could be involved in state-sponsored terrorism? The United Nations would disagree. Listen while I tell you about Nicaragua v The USA.

Feb 12 is the birthday of Charles Darwin, one of the greatest minds in human history. Did you know he studied theology?

Now… back onto the subject of faith versus reason. Let me state my premise as clearly as I can, one more time:

To believe something exists (let’s say unicorns) without any evidence to support the theory, is not rational.

To not believe something exists (or to hold no opinion on the matter either way) because there is a complete lack of evidence to support the theory, is completely rational and is not a matter of “faith”. Is it a matter of reason. They are complete opposites.

It’s quite simple.

Oh and one more thing. Science is the on-going pursuit of truth through the search for evidence. It is the only rational model for seeking truth. Every other model dispenses with evidence, reason and logic and are, ipso facto, irrational.

And I vote for logic, reason and evidence. And I also suggest that people who are irrational are a danger to us all. You wouldn’t let an irrational person become President of the United States, would you? Oh… bad example.

Don’t Rat To The Cops says The Pope

Harkening back to one of the shows Dunc and I did last week, today in this article about the latest round of sexual misconduct (which is a PC way of saying “having sex with little boys) allegations against the Catholic Church, I found this:

In a BBC documentary produced last year, a reporter traced the sexual abuse crisis back to the Vatican and to Pope Benedict XVI himself.

According to the report, while Pope Benedict was still Cardinal Raztinger, he authorised a document in 2001, which was then approved by the late Pope John Paul related to crimes of solicitation. The document instructed all bishops to put the interests of the church ahead of those of law enforcement.

So basically Papa Benny along with J.Piddy 2, both conspired, as recently as 2001, to protect Mother Church ahead of their victims.

So don’t tell me “oh that’s all in our past, we’ve all changed now”. Bullshit. The Catholics are dirty and should be shut down. How long are we going to tolerate this kind of behaviour?

I love ya Father Bob, but your mob are rotten to the core at the highest levels.

Record The G’Day World Promo for 2007

I’ve been sitting here trying to record the G’Day World promo for 2007 and I can’t do it. I’m trying to summarize what this show is about these days and I really can’t. What the hell *is* it about?

Anyway, it might be better if one of *you* did the promo for me. I can’t do self-promotion. You can either email me a 15 – 30 second clip (please make it hi-res) or you can record it using Odeo.

G’DAY WORLD 185 – Church and State, Apple’s Double Standards, and Why Faith Is Inferior to Reason

A little early with the show today.

Here’s what I rant about:

Apple has double standards when it comes to copyrights

Sargon I of Akkad, the first Empire builder

IODA PROMONET previews not working

I’ve still only had a couple of people sign up for my $50 Amazon voucher promotion. You know, at this stage, it could be REALLY easy to win.

Check out Miriam’s idea. The old reverse psychology trick. Then go and read her post on her background in self-harm.

Multi-Touch Screen Demo

The whole Apple iPhone mania spurred me to investigate some more this “multi-touch” screen idea. And I found this video:

Ewan Spence then reminded me that he interviewed the guy behind the video, Jeffrey Han, last year at E-Tech. It’s well worth a listen. I remember blogging about it at the time but I hadn’t seen the video at that stage. This blows me away. It is right out of Minority Report.
